Primary Years Programme at ISA

From Kindergarten to Grade 5

Students at PYP are encouraged to use their natural curiosity and to develop positive attitudes to learning through hands-on experiences.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) at ISA focuses on holistic development by nurturing:

  • Academic achievement
  • Social and emotional well-being
  • Physical development
  • Creative and personal expression

Students in the PYP are encouraged to use their natural curiosity and to develop positive attitudes  to learning through hands-on experiences. The IB PYP curriculum is designed to support children both as learners and as individuals. A nurturing atmosphere of trust between students, parents, faculty and administration ensures that every child can be actively involved in their own learning process.

Language arts, maths, science and social studies are taught through units of study which interchangeably combine the acquisition of knowledge and the practice of life-long skills. These core subjects are taught by homeroom teachers. Students attend classes led by specialist teachers in performing and visual arts, personal, social and physical education, information technology, and modern Greek – either as a mother tongue or as host language. In addition, students have the opportunity to begin learning French, Spanish or German.

A variety of field trips throughout the year support the IB units of inquiry by providing our PYP students with real-world connections to the concepts they are exploring in class.

ELS support

Students who are new to English or who have not yet acquired full fluency follow intensive classes in English with a specialist English Language Support (ELS) teacher.

Welcome from the head of the PYP

It is our pleasure to welcome you to our warm, vibrant, international community where every child is greeted by name and every family feels at home. Through the IB Primary Years Programme, our team creates meaningful, and engaging learning experiences that help our students grow as lifelong learners, thoughtful problem-solvers, and agents of change with a strong understanding of their global citizenship. As part of the Dukes Education family, we also “Lead with Heart.” We support students’ well-being and guide them to become compassionate individuals who reflect, empathize, respect others, and recognize that our differences strengthen our community. These experiences equip our students with the skills and mindset they need to thrive in the Middle Years Programme.Mrs Nancy Kaza, Head of Lower School
