Middle Years Programme at ISA

From Grade 6 to Grade 10

Middle School at ISA aims to nurture intellectual development and personal growth through the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the IB curriculum.

It provides a learning framework that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers

Middle School is an extremely important phase of personal and intellectual development and requires a programme that helps students participate actively and responsibly in a changing and increasingly interrelated world. Learning how to learn and how to evaluate information critically is as important as learning facts.

The MYP in detail

The MYP at ISA builds on the students’ existing knowledge through the study of eight traditional subject groups:

  • Language and Literature (English and Greek)
  • Language Acquisition (choice of Spanish, German, French and/or Arabic)
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences
  • Individuals and Societies
  • Physical and Health Education
  • Design
  • Arts

Assessment

At the end of MYP, all Grade 10 students sit for the e-assessment examinations. MYP eAssessments provides students with an opportunity for recognition for their hard work and achievements. The exams focus on real understanding rather than memorisation. They also allow students to build important skills and experience needed for further study.

Service as Action

In the MYP, Service as Action (SaA) is an integral component that encourages students to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. It promotes socially responsible attitudes and empowers students to take thoughtful and meaningful action within their communities.

Through SaA, students develop skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and intercultural understanding while addressing authentic needs locally and globally. The program is structured around seven learning outcomes, including awareness of personal strengths, undertaking new challenges, working collaboratively, and considering ethical implications. At ISA, students engage in a variety of school-sponsored and student-initiated projects, fostering empathy, responsibility, and a sense of global citizenship.

Welcome to the MYP

Welcome to the MYP, a community where curiosity, integrity, and purpose guide every student’s journey. I am thrilled to lead this programme as we inspire and prepare young people to be compassionate and globally minded learners who thrive in a rapidly changing world. We have proudly offered the International Baccalaureate MYP since 2015, a dynamic framework that inspires students to think critically, act responsibly, and connect their learning to real-life contexts. Through inquiry, collaboration, and reflection, we support each learner’s growth and celebrate their achievements.Mrs Dina Venieris, Head of Upper School
