2. What are the characteristics of an ideal knight?
A knight learned how to use a sword and a battle-axe, how to ride a war-horse and be accurate with a lance. He exercised and was fit. He learned how to dance, eat and drink properly and be polite to ladies. He went on Crusades to fight and he was loyal to the King. He was also courageous and bright.
3. Why do people go to war? Page 55
People go to war for more land/colonies, money/wealth/jewellery, slaves for labour, glory, Crusades (capture the Holy Land), trade because they have enemies.
4. What happened at the battle of Hastings. Page 57
In the early morning mist English and Normans faced each other on a hillside near Hastings. The battle lasted all day. It was a close battle but finally King Harold was killed and the battle ended.
5. How can pictures like the Bayeux Tapestry tell us about History. Page 60-61
We look at the pictures carefully and pick out the details that are there and write about them. Then we can make INFERENCES. An inference is more than a guess. It is something you can work out from the picture even if it’s not shown.
6. Why did monk John and monk Guillaume tell us different stories or their versions of the Battle of Hastings?
John was English and Guillaume was from Normandy and they wanted people to believe their version of the story. Both stories show bias (one point of view).

-The Normans built castles to protect their soldiers.

The servants stole his jewels and clothes, leaving his body naked. At his funeral, the coffin was too small for his swollen body. As men tried to force his body into the coffin, it burst, causing a terrible stink. The nobles and bishops ran out of the cathedral, leaving a handful of monks to bury the King.
10. How did castles change in the 12th century? Pg. 83
Most were rebuilt in stone. At the centre was the strongest part of the castle called the keep.
