EXPECTATIONS
IB Biology Year 2
Study for IB exams in May.
February 15: Lab on Heart Rate. February 17: Lab on Excersice and Respiration. February 20: Lab on Blood Analysis.
THE MOCK EXAMS WILL INCLUDE ALL THE MATERIAL IN TOPICS 1-6 (HL & SL), OPTIONS D & G (HL & SL), TOPICS 7-11 (HL).
TEST ON JANUARY 9, 2012 ON ALL THE MATERIAL ALREADY COVERED IN TOPIC 5 ON "HUMAN HEALTH AND PHYSIOLOGY".
December 16, 2011: Review all material covered in Year 1 and so far this year (up to and including "Gas Exchange"). Complete the Internal Assessment work that is overdue. Have a nice break!
TEST ON EVOLUTION, OPTION D, ON NOVEMBER 25 RESCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY DECEMBER 2.
October 24, 2011. Review and study the material in Option D "Evolution" up to and including "Species and Speciation".
Lab report on "Abiotic factors and population variations" due on October 24.
TEST ON ECOLOGY (TOPIC 5 AND OPTION G) ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 14, 2011.
FIELD WORK FOR THE INTERNAL ASSESSMENT ON "ABIOTIC FACTORS AND POPULATION VARIATIONS" on October 3. The excercise will take all day. Wear hiking shoes, long pants, bring a hat, bring your lunch and water.
September 16, 2011. Please make sure to finish all outstanding Internal Assessment laboratory reports pending by next Monday.
September 6, 2011. Please return signed Laboratory Safety form by the end of this week.
First exam will be on Monday September 12. Topics included are all the ones covered in Year 1.
IB Biology Year 1
Final Exam topics are: Topic 1, "Statistics"; Topic 2, "Cells"; Topic 3, "The chemistry of life"; Topic 4 "Genetics"; Topic 7, "Nucleic acids and proteins"; Topic 8, "Cell respiration and photosynthesis"; Topic 9, "Plant science"; Topic 10 "Genetics".
Study and review Topic 5 on Ecology.
Lab report on "Plant Phyla" is due on May 14.

September 19, 2011. Study the structure of prokaryotic cells. Read ahead on the structure of eukaryotic animal and plant cells.
September 9, 2011. Finish the calculations on % change from the table on Chimpanzee mass. Bring graph paper to the next class.
September 6, 2011. Please return signed Laboratory Safety form by the end of this week.
Biology 10th Grade
Final Exam topics for 10 A only, are: Chapter 10, "Plants and Food"; Chapter 11, "Transport in plants"; Chapter 13," Reproduction in plants".
Final Lab report on "Osmosis" is due on Tuesday May 22.

February 17, 2012: Study the notes and the material in the text book on global warming, ozone depletion and acid rain.
THE MID YEAR EXAMS WILL INCLUDE CHAPTERS 10-11, 13-14, & THE SECTION ON GLOBAL WARMING AND THE GREEN HOUSE EFFECT IN CHAPTER 15.
TEST ON CHAPTER 14 "ECOSYSTEMS" ON JANUARY 10. You can also begin reviewing the material covered so far for the Mid Year Exam (Chapters 10, 11, 13, 14). Prepare the laboratory report on the "Flower Types", the report is due on January 10.
November 4, 2011. Final laboratory report on "Photosynthesis" is due on Tuesday November 15. The report should include: Changes made to the method and the reasons, Data, Graphs, Analysis of the data (includes any calculations made), Conclusions and Evaluation of the experiment, its methodology and proposed improvements.
TEST ON CHAPTER 11 "TRANSPORT IN PLANTS" ON TUESDAY NOVEMBER 8.
Laboratory on "Photosynthesis" will begin on Tuesday Novemebr 1st. Come prepared.

The report should include: 1) Research question (aim), 2) Hypothesis (your prediction), 3) Variables (independent, dependent, controlled), 4) Method (just attach the method given to you), 5) Apparatus (equipment), 6) Data Table, 7) Graph, 8) Analysis of the data, 9) Conclusion, 10) Evaluation of the method.
November 10, 2011. Laboratory experiment on Temperature and Catalase Activity is on Monday November 14. Come prepared with lab coat, timer, ruler and method. Make sure you have carefully read and understood the method.
